The meaning of the Quran and translation studies were discussed at MAKÜ

The program titled "Searching for the Meaning of the Qur'an in Translations" organized by Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University Faculty of Theology was held with the intense participation of academics and guests. The event began with the recitation of the Qur'an and offered a spiritual atmosphere to the participants.

In the opening speech of the program, Burdur Provincial Mufti Ali Hayri Çelik expressed his satisfaction with the realization of such a meaningful organization and thanked everyone who contributed. Çelik emphasized the importance of correctly understanding the Qur'an for individual and social life, stating that translation works serve as an important bridge in this regard.

Dean of the Faculty of Theology Prof. Dr. Yasin Pişgin, in his speech, emphasized that the Qur'an is not only a holy book for the Islamic world but also a guide for life. Pişgin mentioned the necessity of reading the Qur'an by contemplating its meaning, not just reading it, and stated that academic studies contribute to this process. He also expressed that the increase in different translations today makes the search for the correct meaning even more important.

Rector Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Dalgar also stated in his speech that universities are not only institutions that produce scientific knowledge but also centers that contribute to social and spiritual values. Rector Dalgar noted that the effort to understand the Qur'an, in addition to reading it, enriches the individual's world of thought, and stated that such programs provide significant gains for students and academics.

In the main part of the program, Member of the High Council of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Ömer Kara and Marmara University Faculty of Theology Lecturer Prof. Dr. Muhammet Abay made their presentations. The speakers made comprehensive evaluations on the preparation processes of Qur'an translations, translation methods, and the challenges encountered in conveying meaning. The academics, who drew attention to the delicate balance between the wording and meaning of the Qur'an, stated that translations alone may not be sufficient and should be supported with exegesis and scholarly knowledge. Additionally, the importance of updating translations due to the change of language over time was emphasized.

The program, which was followed with interest by the participants, ended after the presentation of gifts to the speakers.
